Recorder’s Court. James Ryan, John Finnegan, and Michael Gerahty, were of convicted of stealing a glass bottle, and basket, out of the car of. Mr. Malone, in Thomas-street. Ryan and Gerahty were sentenced to transportation for seven  years—Finnegan to six months’. The prisoners were convicted through means of the testimony of a young man named Hill, al a watchman, who has been on the establishment since 1827, he and in that short space of time has been so indefatigable as to have transported nineteen persons, (twelve of them for life), imprisoned seventeen to seven and twelve months’ incarceration, and three for two years in Newgate. Hill does not appear to be more than twenty-one of age.  The Pilot, 13 Oct 1830. Recorder’s Court. Yesterday ROBBERY. . -.James .Ryan, John Finnegan, and Michael Geraghty, stood indicted for stealing a basket, containing a glass and other property, belonging to Andrew Malone. The prosecutor proved that the basket, &c., was taken out of the well of the car as he was driving through Thomas-street  (witness identified the basket.) Joseph Hill, a watchman, being sworn, said he saw the three prisoners  looking at a show in Thomas-street, and when Mr. Malone's car was passing, they left the show and followed it about  three-perches (One of them (Geraghty) stooped in over the car and took out the basket ; Mr. Malone himself was driving the car at the time, and a lady was sitting on each side of it; Geraghty was joined by the other two prisoners and they began to riot amongst themselves to see who would have the basket; witness went amongst them, and he was immediately knocked down by them; they let the basket fall on the street and ran off; he arrested them afterwards in different places; he knew them all before and could not be mistaken in identifying them. Two of the prisoners (Ryan and Finnegan) alleged that they were not at all cognizant of the robbery. They were aII found guilty- Ryan and Geraghty sentenced to seven years' transportation, and Finnegan to six months' imprisonment in the gaol of Newgate. The Court adjourned to 11 o'clock  Freeman’s Journal, 13 Oct 1830.
