Irish Convict Database by Peter Mayberry. John Gibbons, age on arrival, 41, per Norfolk (3) 1832, Tried 1831 at Kilkenny, 14 years for Forged notes. Previous conviction, 1 year. DOB, 1791, native place, Londonderry Derry Co. Married, 1 child. Catholic. Bleacher cooper. Previously transported for life per Earl St Vincent (3) [1823] under name of Bernard McNicholl from Louth but escaped from colony. Committed to the County Gaol, on the 8th January. instant, by CHARLES MADDEN. Esq., J. P.___John Gibbons, charged by Elizabeth Murphy, of Cliftlen, near Gowran, with uttering a 30. forged note, purporting to be of the Bank  of Ireland. The note was admirably executed, and was numbered 33729. Kilkenny Moderator, 19 Jan 1831. Convictions at the Kilkenny Assizes. John Gibbons, John M’Gee, and Wm. Smith, having forged Bank Notes, in possession—to be transported for 14 years. Waterford Chronicle, 26 Mar 1831.
