391 ton Barque. Built Liverpool. The Barque Arabian, under the command of Captain Robertson, left Kingstown, Dublin, 22 November, 1846, with 150 female convicts and 37 children on board. One woman and 7 children died on the voyage. At least 2 children were born during the voyage. The Surgeon Superintendent was Dr Wylie, R.N. and the Matron, Mrs Evans. The Arabian arrived at Hobart Town, February 25 1847.

Transportation. Mary Gilgan was indicted for feloniously stealing a gown, shawl and handkerchief, the goods of Mary Megaraghan, who swore that on the 16th June, at Billiuiogher, her house was broken open, and on her going home she missed the things, when she pursued prisoner the road and found them her person. Guilty. —Being her second offence, she was sentenced to transportation for seven years—the wretched being, a young woman, sobbed and cried aloud. Sligo Journal, 3 July 1846.

On their oath say that the said Mary Gilgan being a prisoner on board Her Majesty’s ship “Anson”, then and there moored in Prince of Wales Bay in the River Derwent in the island aforesaid on the twenty fourth day of May in the year aforesaid on board the ship “Anson” aforesaid by the visitation of God in a natural way, to wit of fever and not otherwise did die.
