Irish Convict Database, by Peter Mayberry. John Gillespie, alias Gelaspy, Per Anne I (1801), Life, Irish rebel. Not found in 1811 muster. ---------------------------------------------------- Source: “Unfinished Revolution: United Irishmen in New South Wales” by Anne-Maree Whitaker. Page 136. She is talking of the 1806 muster: “The muster shows ten of the convicts who had arrived on the Anne, five years earlier, as emancipated or free by service. .... Two of the Anne convicts who evidently had a good education were Alexander Maguire, clerk to Matthew Kearns, and John Gillespie, schoolmaster. Maguire was a United Irishman from Enniskillen, County Fermanagh, while Gillespie had been convicted of bestiality.
