Family connections for Sarah (Gittens) are: GITTENS Sarah (??? perhaps Gittens) was born about 1755/65/68. She arrived in NSW on 9 7 1791 after a voyage of 6.5months, on Fleet ship MARY ANN with a child. She seems to have married Isaac (Nelson his first marriage) & produced 3children. In 1800-2 she was recorded living with her family on grant of 15acres. In 1806 she was recorded with her family. She was recorded in 1814 as living with her family at Liverpool. She died on 21 12 1817 age49 & was buried at St Lukes CofE Liverpool. Sarah (Gittens) does not have an entry on this Website as yet: although 2entries for Sophia (Girton) are found. He was Free by Servitude by 1795. In 1800-2 he was recorded living with his family on his grant of 15acres. In 1806 he was recorded as schoolmaster with his family. In 1809 he had land at Prospect Creek Georges River. On 11 2 1814 he sought licence to sell spirits at Liverpool. He was recorded in 1814 as living with his wife & 2children as landholder at Liverpool. He married secondly Ann (Brackfield) emancipist on 1 9 1825 at St Lukes CoofE Liverpool. She was tried w/3others for being found, on 13 3 1790, with fake coins & manufacturing equipment at Old Bailey on 7 7 1790, sentenced to be drawn on hurdle to place of execution & to be burnt, reprieved to Life & arrived in NSW as a convict on 9 7 1791 after a voyage of 6.5months on Fleet ship MARY ANNalso. She married William (Bond) at Parramatta. She was issued an Absolute Pardon on 12 9 1799. She is recorded in 1820/1 as licenced baker at Pitt St Sydney. He was tried for grand larceny stealing silk handkerchief of John (Gardonor) & shirt etc of Martin (Golding) at Chelmsford House Essex Assizes in April 1789, sentenced to 7years & arrived in NSW as a convict on 9 7 1791 after a voyage of 6months on Fleet ship WILLIAM AND ANN. He is recorded in 1805/6 as working for his future father in law Philip (Roberts). He was Free by Servitude by 1809. He is recorded in 1828 as farmer at Portland Head with 2of his children. He was tried w/his wife & 1other for shop lifting of printed cotton of Christopher (Dobson) in East Greenwich Kent/London at Maidstone Kent Assizes in March 1787, sentenced to death reprieved to Life, held at Maidstone Gaol, reprieved to 14years in May 1789, held on hulk JUSTITIA (on the Thames at Woolwich London) & arrived in NSW as a convict on 26 6 1790 after a voyage of 7months on Fleet ship NEPTUNE; a voyage noted for extreme brutality of prisoners with a high death rate. Philip (Roberts) was born about 1766 & became a soldier 102nd Regiment Coldstream Guards. He was tried w/1other for highway robbery of Henry (Sharpe), on 2 11 1790, & stealing money at Old Bailey on 8 12 1790, sentenced to death reprieved to Life & arrived in NSW as a convict on 14 2 1792 after a voyage of 8.5months on PITT: much fever & attempts to escape from the ship resulted in deaths of convicts-of the 450convicts on board only 29 were alive at muster in May 1792 (or perhaps only this many could be mustered). He had land grant in 1792. In 1795 he was granted 50 acres at Red Bank. After 1799 he adopted his stepdaughter Jane (Gittins). In 1803 he was granted 120acres at Mulgrave Place Hawkesbury. In 1806 he employed John (Dorrington WILLIAM AND ANN 1791), who became husband of his stepdaughter Jane. In 1825 he was a constable at Portland Head Windsor Hawkesbury. He is recorded in 1828 at Portland Head on 70acres with his wife. He died in 1849 age about85 at Lower Portland & was buried at St Johns CofE Wilberforce.
