Colonial Secretary Index. GLEESON, Edward. Per "Earl St Vincent", 1823. 1825 May 25 Petition to have his wife Johanna sent out at Government expense (Fiche 3286; 4/1112.1A pp.126-7) The Humble Memorial of Edward Gleeson who arrived per ship Earl St Vincent, sentenced for seven years. Sheweth That Memorialist left in Ireland a wife residing in the parish of Killaduggan, County Tipperary ( for truth of which he begs leave to refer to - Bennett, Esq, J.P. and Revd. Mr Hurley, Parish Priest of the said parish. That he could maintain her in this Colony independent of Government, being a sober and industrious man. Therefore most humbly solicits Your Excellency to be graciously pleased to procure for his wife Johanna Gleeson, alias ?, a free passage to New South Wales and Memorialist as in duty bound will ever pray. Edward Gleeson, Sydney 25 May 1825. The statement of Memorialist is in my opinion correct. John Joseph Therry, R.C.C. I certify that Edward Gleeson, who came by the ship Earl St Vincent has been under my inspection at the Govt Establishment of Long Bottom since his arrival in the Colony and during which time I can venture to say that he has conducted himself with sobriety and honesty.
