He was a labourer living at Awkley West Riding Yorkshire when he was charged with highway burglary of Joseph (Teweedale) of Tickhill & other offences on 8 1 1814 & later living at Tickhill when he was charged with stealing a pocket knife etc of James (Rhodes) carpenter of Sprotborough - for which he was tried at Lent Assizes at York on 19 3 1814, sentenced to 7years & arrived in NSW as a convict on 26 4 1815 afyer a voyage of 7months on INDEFATIGABLE; he was 5'10½" ruddy complexion light brown hair blue eyes. He was also known as Jervis (Gladding) & Jervis (Gleaden). He settled at Baulkham Hills. He had a relationship with Eleanor (Smith her second relationship) in 1832. He died on 13 9 1836 age48. She was tried for stealing a watch at Tyrone Ireland, sentenced to 7years & arrived in NSW as a convict on 26 4 1829 after a voyage of 4months on EDWARD; she was 4'11" fresh complexion black hair brown eyes. She married firstly Robert (Gunn his second marriage) with permission on 9 12 1829 at St Johns CofE Parramatta. Her Certificate of Freedom was issued on 20 10 1834 She died about 1866 age about57. 22/1/1814 Leeds Mercury Yorkshire, England: LEEDS, SATURDAY, JAN. 22 on Saturday evening, the 8 day of January instant, upon the highway. Gervas Gleadall (aged 25), late of Awkley, in the west riding, labourer, committed the 18 day of January 1814, charged upon the oath of Joseph Tweedale of the parish of Tickhill, in the west riding, with having been concerned in a burglary, committed by him upon the property of the said Joseph Tweedale, and for divers other offences. 19/3/1814 Yorkshire Lent Assizes, Castle of York: Joseph Gleadall (aged 28), late of Tickhill, in the west riding (Yorkshire), committed the 17 day of January 1814, charged upon the oath of James Rhodes, of the parish of Sprotbrough, in the said riding, carpenter, with having feloniously robbed him of a new pocket knife, one key, and a quantity of silver coin, to the amount of about eighteen shillings. Gervas was 27 years old, 5' 10½" tall, ruddy complexion, light brown hair and blue eyes. Colonial Secretary Index: GLEDHALL, Jarvis. Per "Indefatigable", 1815 1818 Nov 11: Petition for mitigation of sentence (Fiche 3186; 4/1855 p.109) Gervas settled at Baulkham Hills near Sydney. C1832: Had a relationship with Eleanor/Ellen Smith (Edward 1829). 1836: Gervas died at Parramatta, aged 48.
