JAIL: 15 May, 1849: John GODSIL (19) was committed to stand trial – along with Denis Donovan (19) and Elisa Parker (20) – charged with having stolen 8 lbs tea, 20 lbs of loaf sugar 7 lbs of … and 28 lbs of scale sugar. John GODSIL was admitted to Cork City jail, listed as #905 and aged 19, Roman Catholic, a labourer; twice previously convicted and jailed (Ireland, Prison Registers, 1790-1924 for John Godsil; Cork; Cork City; 1840-1874). Previous Conviction: John Godsel [sic], 19 at the time, was jailed for 3 months on 26 January, 1849, for stealing a drawer with silver and copper coins to the value of 8 shillings (Ireland, Prison Registers, 1790-1924 for John Godsel; Cork; Cork City; 1840-1874). --0--
