N.B. There are several convicts transported named "John Goldsmith". John Goldsmith was convicted at Surrey, Engand on 10 (or 18) December 1826 for burglary. Life sentence. Transported to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania), Australia per the ship "Layton" arriving 1828. Single man; Protestant; out of work for 8 mths. Father & Mother - Stewarts Buildings, Colony of VDL: Assigned to work service. 1828: Prison Barracks, Hobart. Several records of misconduct and punishments. Married Mary Ann Donovan (or Maher) in New Norfolk, Tasmania, on 14 November 1836. Married Lavinia Ann Cherry in Hobart on 22 December 1873.
