Family connections for Ruth (Goodaire) are: GOODAIRE Ruth (Goodair/e) was tried at York Assizes, sentenced to Life & arrived in NSW as a convict on 11 4 1806 after a voyage of 9.5months on WILLIAM PITT. She had a relationship with James Meehan), produced at least 2children & later married in 1808. [Some details taken from this Website] EXPLORER James (Meehan) was born about 1774. About 1795 he was living at Shinrone Kings co. (Offaly) Ireland-he learned surveying. He joined the United Irishmen against the British. He was sergeant during the Irish Rebellion >1798. He was tried at Kings co., sentenced to Life, held at Brunskill Dublin Bay & Waterford (from January 1799) & arrived in NSW as a convict on 16 2 1800 after a voyage of 5.5months on FRIENDSHIP. With his surveying knowledge he was assigned to Charles (Grimes surveyor & Surveyor General) measuring new farms at Hawkesbury & is recorded with him in 1800-2. In 1801 he surveyed lower Hunter River w/Lieutenant James (Grant); in 1802 we went with expedition of Lieutenant Charles Robbins on expedition to King Island & Port Phillip (now Victoria). In 1805-6 he was recorded with 110acres. In August 1806 he became assistant Surveyor at Port Jackson, becoming Chief Surveyor & drafting 1807 map of Sydney Town. In 1818 he went with Hamilton (Hume) & John (Oxley) to Jervis Bay. In April 1820 he accompanied William (Chalker) on exploration of Wollondilly River which was deemed unsuitable. He died on 21 4 1826 age52.
