Convict Notes

Previous conviction Kent Quarter sessions 1824. "Misdemeanor against the Game Lord". This would seems to be a minor poaching infringement. Sentenced to 3 months imprisonment (aged 17 years.

Date of TOL is correct. Jesse had spent time in prison since 1847, like many convicts to WA they were given the option of being transported and being given a TOL on arrival or shortly after. This meant they were essentially free. They could work for themselves and were not government servants. They still need to be in there districts and report to musters, however. After they received their Certificate of Freedom, they could move around the Colony but could not return to England. Jesse was given his TOL on arrival (the date of arrival of the ship has now been corrected.

Unsure about TOL date. This predates arrival in WA? Married Mary Ann Costin Aug 24 1828. Records of parents and children's baptism held, also census data.

Jesse was 40 years old when transported to WA. Jesse was 5' 8 3/4", dark brown hair, hazel eyes, round face, dark complexion, proportionate build. 14/10/1851: TOL 25/11/1859: COF 1866: Jesse died in WA - parents were unknown and no marriage or children found.

Married with three children at time of trial.
