Tried at High Court, Edinburgh Dates 17 Jun 1839 Accused Thomas Gorrie, Verdict: Guilty, Sentence: Transportation - 10 years Previous convictions: theft - Edinburgh police court, 12 December 1837. William Hendrie, Verdict: Guilty, Sentence: Transportation - 14 years Previous convictions: theft - Edinburgh police court, 12 December 1837. William Hendrie was also on board the Maitland. Thomas Gorrie was 19 years old on arrival : Native Place: Edinburgh. Thomas was literate, presbyterian, single, 5'6¾" tall, fair ruddy and freckled complexion, brown hair, dark hazel eyes, scar on left side of neck, scar back of thumb and little finger of left hand. 4/1/1844: TOL Queanbeyan 5/2/1850: COF Much conjecture on family websites - There was a Thomas Gorrie who was born in Woodend, on 28/12/1820, in Methven, Scotland, and they say that it was this Thomas Gorrie who married Jane Stothard at the Church of England, Mudgee, NSW. He was also listed in the 1872 Greville Postal Directory as Thomas Gorrie, Innkeeper, Avisford, and died 19/3/1873, in Avisford, NSW. The convict Thomas Gorrie was born in Edinburgh, most likely on 23/6/1822, the son John Gorrie, Trumpeter, and Helen McIntosh. No further information found after his COF in 1850.
