Convict Notes

NSW Digitised Indent for Ship William and Ann. John Gost, Tried Assizes for County of Essex at Chelmsford, 14 July 1790, fourteen years. (Miles Peatman was transported on the same ship)

It would seem that John had a short de facto relationship with Eleanor Stores (Convict, Nile, 1801). They had a son, Edward Stores, born 1803, after the death of his father. John was recorded in the 1800-1802 Muster as edited by Carol Baxter: [Ref AA411] John Goss, 31 pigs, 19 acres wheat, 8 acres maize to be planted. Off Stores. Grant at Mulgrave Place.

Ipswich Journal Sat 24 Jul 1790 p.2 Chelmsford Assizes which ended last Friday, John Gost, and Miles Peatman, for housebreaking...were capitally convicted, received sentence of death, and are to be executed on Friday next. The sentence was reprieved and they were transported for 14 years. Transported on the ship William and Ann which arrived in the colony 28 Aug 1791.
