“List of four convicts who died on board the ship “Guildford” 8th... Peter Harte, #168, died 28 October, 1829, dysentery; latitude 39°.28 S: 137°.11E John Reilley, #172, died 1 October, 1829, idem [i.e. the same]; lat 43°.11 S: 34°.50E Patrick Gough, #179, died 19 September, 1829, idem; lat 36°.40S: 4°. 51W Patrick Flood, #188, died 13 October 1829, idem; lat 41°.44S: 77°.59E ‘The cause of death in all these cases was the same, viz. malignant dysentery affecting persons debilitated by long confinement, poor diet and suffering more or less from scurvey.’ Signed by J Stephenson, surgeon superintendent, 7 Nov 1829” (New South Wales, Australia Convict Ship Muster Rolls and Related Records, 1790-1849; 1829; Guildford; image 42).

DEATH AT SEA: From the "Medical journal of the Guildford, male convict ship, for 14 May to 14 November 1829 by J. Stephenson, Surgeon and Superintendent, during which time the said ship was employed in a voyage to New South Wales": "Folios 4-8: Patrick Gough, aged 23, convict; sick or hurt, dysentery severe pain in the abdomen below umbilicus, continual attempts at emptying the bowels, distressing tenesmus and trifling discharge of dark green slime mixed with blood; put on sick list 10 September 1829, died 19 September 1829."
