Lindsey Sessions. —-and Simon Gowing, late of Horncastle convicted of stealing a coat from Wm. Stanes, (and also indicted for stealing a pewter dish and a pewter plate,)— were severally sentenced to be transported for seven years.  Stamford Mercury, 11 May 1827.

Simon Gowing was 24 years old on arrival in VDL, transported for stealing a great-coat. Previous convictions: once for tame rabbits~acquitted, once for being drunk on the sabbath, and once for a gun~acquitted. Simon was single, protestant, 5'7" tall, florid complexion, brown hair and whiskers, light blue eyes. Mother at Horncastle, Last worked for his brother-in-law W. Shaw, a sweep at Horncastle. 1830: Assigned to Lt. Bett 1832: In gaol. 5/1/1833: Executed for rape at Hobart Gaol.
