He was convicted w/1other for stealing, on 22 11 1809, cotton etc of Thomas (Greenley) at Old Bailey on 1 12 1819, sentenced to 7years, held probably at London/Middlesex Gaol Delivery & arrived in NSW as a convict on 16 8 1820 after a voyage of 4months on EARL ST VINCENT. He was Free by Servitude by 1827 & married Margaret (He/inshaw/Hanchard) on 30 7 1827 at St Peters CofE Richmond. . He was recorded in 1829 & 1830 as a farmer. He died on 22 6 1884 age83 at Windsor. [Some details taken from this Website] Margaret (He/inshaw/Hanchard) was born on 29 2 1812 & baptised on 22 3 1812 as (Hinshaw) at St Matthews CofE Windsor. She died on 11 2 1884 age71 at Windsor. Tried and convicted at the Old Bailey on 1st December 1819, for the theft of 1 cap, 4 yards of cotton, and 1 child's gown, the goods of Thomas Greenley, he was sentenced to 7 years transportation. Left England on 12th April 1820. Ship:- the 'Earl St Vincent' sailed with 160 male convicts on board of which 1 died during the voyage. Arrived on 16th August 1820. Married Margaret Hanchard (daughter of convict Daniel Hanchard, 'Neptune' 1790 & his wife Anne) on 30th July 1827 at Richmond, they had 11 children between 1829-1856. Margaret died on 11th February 1884 at Windsor age 71. John died on 22nd June 1884 at Windsor age 83. Old Bailey Trial Transcription. Reference Number: t18191201-116 115. JOHN GREEN and JOHN MARTIN were indicted for stealing, on the 27th of November , one cap, value 1 s, four yards of cotton, value, 4 s., and one child's gown, value 1 s. , the goods of Thomas Greenley . SUSAN GREENLEY . I am the wife of Thomas Greenley, who is an ironmonger , at Bow. I sell haberdashery. On the 27th of November I lost these things out of the shop-window - they laid together. I was in the shop when they were taken. HENRY SAUNDERS . I am a headborough, and live at Bow. On the 27th of November, between eleven and twelve o'clock in the day, I stood at my door and saw the prisoners cross the road. I suspected and watched them by Mrs. Greenley's shop; when both returned, Green went in - Martin watched at the window; Green came out, and both went away together. I went into the shop, and then pursued and secured them at Bromley, both walking together. They had been out of my sight. Martin threw a parcel into a ditch, which I picked up - it was the frock and cotton. I found the cap in Green's pocket. GREEN'S Defence. I picked the cap up. GREEN - GUILTY . Aged 17.
