Convict Notes

John Greene was 20 years old on arrival and was transported for 'Stealing Wool' - his native place was Roscommon. 1842: TOL Carcoar 9/3/1844: COF August 1854: Was a constable in the Cowra Police Force and had killed Andrew Duffy on the Cowra racecourse in self-defence – was accused of murder and sent to Sydney for trial - Found not guilty and discharged. C1870: Was incarcerated in the Goulburn gaol – his age was given as 49 and he was a stonemason, 5’7 tall, Stout, brown/grey hair, blue eyes, scar on left buttock, mole on left side back, scar across breast, two moles under left breast and one on the right side of breast, fractured right shin. John Green had a sister who was also transported – reports that it was Anne Green per Roslin Castle 1836, but she was tried at Antrim for Robbing her Master. The other Anne Green/e per Margaret 1837 was tried on the same date and place as John for the same crime of ‘stealing wool’ so it makes more sense that it was her.
