Family connections for John (Greenhalgh) are: Some amendments added Jul 2025. GREENHALGH/GREENHATCH John (Greenhalgh) was born in 1796. He married Mary (Shaw) at Bury Lancashire on 12 9 1814. He was tried for uttering forged notes & tried at Lancaster Assizes, sentenced to death commuted to Life & arrived in NSW as a convict on 18 5 1821 after a voyage of 5months on SPEKE. Sainty & Johnson; 1828 Census of New South Wales: [Ref G1230] Greenhatch, John, 32, GS, Speke, 1820 Life, Protestant, Tenant at Evan. This also mentions Mary [Ref [G1231] aged 33 came Free Jupiter 1823. The two boys Thomas 12 and John 9 are mentioned Came Free and then George 5, William 2, and Sarah 5m all Born in the colony.

John had been married to Mary Shaw at Bury, Lancashire, England 12 September 1814. They had two sons, prior to John being tried in 1820. 2 years after he was transported, Mary and the two boys came via "Jupiter" to join him in the colony. The couple then had a further 8 children in the colony.

John was tried for uttering forged Bank of England notes. He was found guilty at Lancaster Assizes and sentenced to death. This sentence was then commuted to one of transportation for life.
