Family connections for Sarah (Gregory) are: Some amendments added Jul 2025. CLAY/GREGORY Sarah (Clay/Gregory) was born about 1743/55. She married Thomas (Gregory his first marriage & produced 2children) at Sheffield Yorkshire. She was tried for stealing pigs at Hertford in March 1789, sentenced to 7years & arrived in NSW as a convict with her child on 3 6 1790 after a voyage of 12months on Fleet ship LADY JULIANA-a ship with 228females who easily entertained the whole crew & also sailors at Teneriffe stopover. The family was sent to Norfolk Island on SURPRISE, arriving on 7 8 1790. She was sent to Norfolk Island with her family on SURPRISE arriving on 7 8 1790. She is recorded as sentence expired off stores with her family on Norfolk Island in February 1805. She died as emancipist on 20 4 1807 age64 (according to this Smees records & Ref:'People...': however, Smees records show her age as 52) on Norfolk Island; [although she is recorded as leaving Norfolk Island with her family on ESTRAMINA to Derwent on 15 5 1808-among the confusion noted in the refs:[People of...' & 'Forgotten...'-arriving on 7 6 1808.] [Some details taken from this Website] Thomas (Gregory) was born about 1749 perhaps. He was tried probably at Old Bailey, sentenced to 7years, held at Middlesex Gaol Delivery & arrived in NSW on 26 6 1790 after a voyage of 6months on Fleet ship NEPTUNE; a voyage noted for extreme brutality of prisoners with a high death rate. The family was sent to Norfolk Island on SURPRISE, arriving on 7 8 1790. He had 60acres in 1796-plot no.70 sothwest corner near Sydney Bay. He was recorded as Free by Servitude settler/landowner off stores with his family on Norfolk Island in February 1805. He married/associated secondly with Elizabeth (???) [He is recorded as leaving Norfolk Island as part of the first evacuation (for which volunteers apparantly had been called with appropriate compensation offerred & for which he may have tried to decline as some successful farmers were asked to stay) with his daughter [his wife is also recorded as on this voyage, perhaps explaining the confusion mentioned just above] on ESTRAMINA to Derwent on 15 5 1808, arriving on 5 6 1808 according to a clear reference in ref:'Forgotten...' - there being 2Thomas (Gregory)s on Norfolk Island]. He died in Tasmania according to the ref:'People of...' before 15 5 1808 father of perhaps 2children & after being sent to Port Macquarie. [Some details taken from this Website] [However, an Eleanor (Gregory) daughter of Thomas (Gregory NEPTUNE 1789) & Sarah (??? LADY JULIANA 1790 died in 1807) is recorded as born in 1811 in Van Diemens Land (Tasmania)-whose father was sent to Macquarie Harbour (he may have married into the (Fisher) family on Norfolk Island)-was orphaned &, at age16, living with Thomas (Fowles ATLANTIC 1791) at Elizabeth St Hobart Town in 1827).] References: Craig James Smee 'Births and Baptisms Marriages and Defacto Relationships Deaths and Burials New South Wales 1788-1830' ..a complete listing from church & other records in the early colony.
