Mary Ann FLAHERTY was born circa 1819 to 1821 in Ireland (not Liverpool though I wonder if the family lived there on first arriving from Ireland?) She married William GRIMES on 17 Aug 1836 at Collegiate Church, Byrom Street, Manchester which is Manchester Cathedral. (see attached from the IGI) married by Banns, William GRIMES labourer and Mary Ann FLAHERTY spinster. Witnesses Robert FLAHERTY and John GRIMES. (Marriage Certificate from Ancestry) On 6 Aug 1837 she and William had a son John (see attached from the IGI) On 12 Aug 1838 she and William had a daughter Eliza (see attached from the IGI) On 20 Dec 1840 she and William had a daughter Elizabeth ( see attached from the IGI) On the 1841 census (Find My Past and thanks to Bertie off the LFHS forum) they are shown living at Cumberland Street Cellar, Manchester (Salford) LAN, as CRIMES not GRIMES Will CRIMES Greengrocer aged 30 born in this county Mary Ann CRIMES aged 25 born in Ireland John C. CRIMES aged 4 born in this county Eliza CRIMES aged 3 born in this county Betty CRIMES aged 8m born in this county Also living in the same street were Robert FLAHERTY greengrocer 25 born in Ireland (could be Mary's brother another greengrocer in the same street?)with his own family Betty 25 born in this county Elizabeth 2 born in this county A 15 minute walk away in Hardman Street were Eliza (her sister??) and family James FLAHERTY, butcher 60 born in Ireland Mary 60 born in Ireland Eliza 15 Silk weaver born in Ireland (this is only guess work but this is the only Eliza FLAHERTY shown in the 1841 census for Manchester and of course she could be married with a family of her own as we don't know her age) On 6 Aug 1843 Elizabeth GRIMES (Betty) died aged 2 (IGI see attached) and just 3 days later on 9 Aug 1843 Eliza GRIMES died aged 5 (IGI see attached) Mary Ann arrived in VDL in 1848 and in the following year she and Charles FEATHERSTONE applied to the governer to be married, she had one child George I can find (see attached from TAS convict records) and I believe she went on to have 3 more children with Charles. I've had extensive correspondence with Carol Brill who lives in Tasmania and is able to fill in many gaps for Mary Ann after she arrived in VDL. I can find nothing about Mary Ann GRIMES in newspaper accounts from FMP or the holdings at Lancashire library.
