Richard Groombridge was 24 years old on arrival. Richard was 5'4 1/2" tall, dark brown hair, light grey eyes, Merd hearts darts ins rt arm R. above E. Jt left arm Coat R. J. M. Anchor & other marks on same arm. ring on mid & ring finger same hand. R. G. B. C. heart dart on breast. Wife Mary at Maidstone - 2 children. Richard was born/baptised in West Farleigh Kent on 24 January 1808 to Richard and Sarah Groombridge. Richard and Sarah's other children were: William born c1804 Samuel born/baptised 16 February 1806 John born/baptised 27 May 1810 Henry born c1812 Amy born c1817 George born c1821 John appears to have come to Tasmania as a free settler, the others staying in England. He married Catherine Green, a widow on 3 October 1842. They did not have children. Richard married Hannah Maria Holt, born c1820, also on 3 October 1842. Richard and Hannah already had 3 children, John Smart in 1838, William in 1840 and Richard in 1841. In 1844 George was born, Harlette in 1846, Henrietta in 1849 and Samuel in 1854. 28/8/1858: Richard died at the Halfway House Inn, Margate, apparently from an epileptic fit. He was listed as an Innkeeper. Hannah remarried to Edward Palmer.
