Convict Notes




James Guinan was indicted for having in his possession on the 19th December, at Killenaule, three forged 30s. notes, purporting to be of the Bank of Ireland, knowing same to be forged. Edward Morgan, Chief Constable, sworn— Went to prisoner’s house to change a five pound note ; prisoner took out a bundle of notes, and while he was sorting them, witness seized them and took prisoner into custody; took all the notes to Captain Wilson, who selected the forgeries and ordered him to return the others. Thomas Kildabl sworn—The three notes are all very well-executed forgeries. FOR THE DEFENCE. William Walshe sworn—Saw prisoner sell a pig at the fair of Ballingarry for £3 for which he received in payment two new 30s. notes. Mr M'Craith gave prisoner a good character, did also Messrs. James Shearman and Jeremiah M'Cheane, who swore prisoner was in the habit of grazing cattle, &c. Guilty—To be transported for seven years Tipperary Free Press, 4 April 1827.
