A report of his case appears in the Derby Mercury, 22 March 1843. on pages 2 and 3, under heading of “Derbyshire Spring Assizes.” It appears that he committed the crime on 3rd February. The judge regretted that the mother had not been charged as the receiver of stolen property. Sentenced to 7 years transportation.
