19 year old William Haddon was transported to Hobart on ship ‘Persian” with 198 male convicts, arriving on 7 November 1830. There was one death on board. He had been convicted at Warwick on 27 March 1830 for house breaking, and sentenced to transportation for Life. Muster roll 1/1/479, File no 10660. The Ship's surgeon reported that he found the convicts troublesome and unruly during the voyage and the captain, Samuel Hills, felt it necessary to keep them in irons full (image 13, pp27-28) A detachment of the 17th Regiment accompanied them on board. William Hatton was not on the ship’s sick list during the voyage (image 11 pp 23-24) Van Diemen’s Land (Tasmania) Convict Records Description List: Con-18-1-2, (Image 115) William Haddon, Shoemaker, age 19 years Native place: Birmingham, England 5ft 4 inches tall; Dark complexion, Black hair, lack eyes, black eyebrows No whiskers, long visage (i.e face) Medium length nose, high forehead Head: round, mouth: medium width mouth, chin: short. Tattoos: W H M H and 2 sprigs inside left arm. Fin [?] inside right arm. CONDUCT LIST: 31/1/20 Tried Warwick 27 March 1830 – Sentence: Life Native of Birmingham Arrived on “Persian” 7 November 1830. Transported for burglary.
