Mary met a Robert Challis near Oxford Street, London and they went to bed together. when Robert woke up in the morning all his clothes except for his boots had been taken by Mary. A Police Constable stopped her and she tried to claim Robert had given her the clothes as payment. As Robert put it, why would he do that [give away his clothes] when he had nothing left to wear! Potentially Mary Haley also had a previous conviction 1830 for Larceny, in Drury Lane, London, and had been imprisoned on that occasion for three months
