In 1856 Van Diemen's Land was renamed Tasmania.
Thomas Haley or Healy was convicted at the CCC, London 7 May 1849 for larceny. 7yr transportation sentence. Gaol Report: Previous convictions. Insolent & insubordinate. Always ready to join in a riot and violence toward officers. Sent to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) per the 'Lady Kennaway' arriving 28 May 1851. Ship Surgeon's Report: Good Single man; aged 17yrs; labourer; 5'3"; Roman Catholic; read & write a little. Native place - Clarendon Square, New Road. Probation period 1 yr - assigned to Cascades, south Hobart. 19 Feb 1852: disorderly conduct. 10 days solitary confinement. Several other notes of misconduct and punishments. Ticket of Leave granted 5 Nov 1856: Free Certificate Additional Charge, in Colony of Van Diemen's Land: Supreme Court, Hobart 31 Aug 1858 - Assault, putting a person in bodily fear and then stealing therefrom. 18 months imprisonment, with hard labour. Sent to Port Arthur Penal Settlement. 17 March 1859: Further charge of minor larceny. Further 6 mths hard labour. Freedom 2 Feb 1860.
