Maurice Hallihan was transported on the Hercules, departing 29th Nov 1801 and arriving 26th Jun 1802 with 56 passengers.
The "Hercules" ship was built in 1801 at South Sheilds, England. 1801 voyage from Ireland to New South Wales, Australia. Sailed via Rio de Janeiro and the Cape. A mutiny occurred just prior to their arrival at Rio - after 45 minutes it was quashed but 13 convicts had been killed. Jeremiah Pendergass was named as the ring leader and shot. 44 deaths in total on this voyage. There was then another ship, also named, "Hercules" built 1822 at Whitby, England who made 3 trips to Austraia, in 1825, 1830 & 1832.

Maurice Halligan was 19 years old when he arrived in NSW. He was listed as a Rebel – so was most likely to have been involved in the Irish Rebellion of 1798. 1807: TOL 1808: Employed by John Hoare (also on board the Hercules) at the Orphan School. No children found. 31/1/1820: CP 1822: Living at West Bargo, NSW Sister, Sarah London, wife of Patrick London came ‘free’ on the ‘Anne’ 1810, her husband Patrick died almost on arrival and she then lived with Maurice. Sarah died in 1818. Brother Dennis Halligan arrived as a convict per ‘Anne and Amelia’ 1824. 9/4/1845: Maurice died at Appin, NSW., aged 62 – listed on the BDM as Hollahan – and was buried at St Bede’s Catholic Cemetery, Appin.
