Also known as Mary Ann Birmingham, a widow, Sarah was married to James Birmingham. They had five children,all were born in England, three sons accommpanied her to Tasmania - Peter 8, James 6, Henry 2.Her mother's name was Elizabeth, brother John, sisters Ann and Fanny. Her ticket of leave was issued in August 1854. Sarah married Robert Wells 23 October 1854, they had a daughter Elizabeth Wells born 20 March 1855.Died 28 September 1856. Sometime after a Free Certificate was issued in April 1859, Sarah moved to Victoria and changed her name to Sarah Thomas. She died at her home in South Melbourne, on the 2 April 1887 and is buried at Melbourne Cemetery. Sarah's Children That came to Tasmania. Peter Birmingham born c1844, admitted to the Male School of the Orphan School after arrival, discharged to his mother 2 Sept 1854, Peter spent his life in Tasmania. James Birmingham c1846, admitted to Male School of the Orphan School discharged to his mother 2 Sept 1854. Married Harriet Halls in Hobart in 1867. Died in South Melbourne Victoria as James Thomas. Henry Birmingham c1850, admitted to the Infant Division of the Orphan School after arrival, Died 2 April 1854.
