George Hancock was indicted for feloniously stealing , on tyhe 20th April, a handkerchief,(wallet), value 18d. the property of Thomas Branson, junior, from his person. He was in piccadilly and a great mob had gathered and a policeman saw him take the handkerchief from the pocket of Thomas Branson. When searched, they found 2 other handkerchiefs on him. Verdict: Guilty, Transported for Life. 30/1/1818: On list of prisoners embarked of the Duke of Wellington, for the Derwent. (Col. Sec.) 31/1/1818: Transferred from Town Gang, Sydney to the Derwent.(Col. Sec.) 4/2/1818: Arrived Tas. 23/3/1818: Indented to Dr. Young, and disobeyed the orders of his master - 12 Lashes. 1/12/1819: Indented to Hayes, Insolence to his master, the neglect of his duty-25 Lashes. 20/12/1819: Disorderley at "unreadable" - week for Gov in his own time. 1837 Census - At New Town.
