Family connections for Patrick (Hargedon) are: HARGEDON/HARRIGAN Patrick (Hargedon/Harrigan/Harrigaddy) was born about 1788. He was tried as a political prisoner at Mayo Ireland, sentenced to Life & arrived in NSW as a convict on 27 7 1807 after a voyage of 7months on DUKE OF PORTLAND; he was Catholic. He farmed in the Hawkesbury District in the 1810s-1820s. He married Susannah (Ruse age13 her first marriage) on 1 11 1810 at St Johns CofE Parramatta. He was pardoned for his work helping build the Bathurst Road. He was Free by Servitude by 1821. He oved to Lower Minto about 1824. He was a constable at Lower Minto from 1826-1829. He was recorded in 1828 as (Hadgen/Hadigen) with Conditional Pardon labourer with his family at Lower Minto-& a second time with Absolute Pardon as (Harrigan) settler at Macquarie Plains. He died in 1838 age about50 in Liverpool Hospital & was buried, as (Hawdon), on 18 6 1838 at Liverpool Pioneer Memorial Park. [Some details taken from this Website] Susannah (Ruse) was born in 1797. It may be she who was living with her mother in 1806 at Hawkesbury. She was recorded in 1828 as (Hadgen/Hadigen) with his family at Lower Minto-& a second time as (Harrigan) at Macquarie Plains. She had a second relationship with Richard (Ryan) & produced a child: she produced 7known children in her lifetime. He was recorded in 1828 as (Hadgen/Hadigen) with his parents at Lower Minto-& a second time as (Harrigan) at Macquarie Plains. He died in 1880 age abou66. 2.Charles (Harregan/Haddigan) was born on 21 9 1816 & baptised on 20 10 1816 at St Matthews CofE Windsor. He was recorded in 1828 as (Hadgen/Hadigen) with his parents at Lower Minto-& a second time as (Harrigan) at Macquarie Plains. He died on 21 6 1871 age54. 3.Joseph (Harregan/Haddygaddy) was born on 23 4 1818 & baptised on 20 12 1818 at St Matthews CofE Windsor. HO-9-8-3 page 16/51. Hulk records at Portsmouth show that on 15 Jan 1807, 11 convicts arrived from Dublin, whose names are given, but with no further information. The same day these 11 men were embarked on board the Duke of Wellington. "Received eleven from Dublin 15 Jan 1807. Bartholomew Biglane Archibald Biglane Jas Kinsey John Kinsey Patrick Hart Patrick Harrydon Patrick Flynn Michael Grant Wm Cortellon Connell All Sent on board the Duke of Portland, 15 Jan 1807."




Married Susannah Ruse, daughter of First Farmers James Ruse and Elizabeth Perry. Was pardoned for his work helping build the Bathurst Road. Farmed in the Hawkesbury in the 1810s-1820s. Moved to Lower Minto around 1824. Property backed onto Bunbury Curran. Constable of Lower Minto 1826-1829. Wife had a baby to “Richard Ryan” in 1831. Death registered as Patrick Hawdon, buried 18 June 1838, aged 50, per Duke of Portland, died in Liverpool Hospital. Buried in Liverpool Pioneer Memorial Park. Throughout his life in the colony, Patrick’s name was listed as Hargedon (as he was known in Ireland), Haddigaddy, Harrigaddy, Henringham, and at least 10 other variations, with his descendants settling with the name Harrigan. In the colony, Patrick married Susannah Ruse 1st November 1810, Hawkesbury, Samuel Marsden officiating. Patrick Harrigaddy of the parish of Hawkesbury and Susannah Ruse of ditto were married in this church by banns this first day of November on the year one thousand eight hundred and ten by me Samuel Marsden. Both Patrick and Susannah made their X marks in the register in the presence of Elixabeth Ruse and Patrick Nernan who both made their X marks.




The original ships indents do not show Patrick. However, there are 20 Irish convicts stated as transported on the Duke of Portland and none of these are listed so the ship must have made a diversion to pick them up. Patrick is listed on other sites.
