Irish Convict Database, by Peter Mayberry. George Harper, age on arrival, 22, Per Earl St Vincent, (3) 1823. Tried at Downpatrick Down Co. 1821, 7 years, Crime: Felony web of linen. Trade, Carman. DOB 1801, Native place, Armagh Co. ---------------------------------------------------- George Harper, indicted for stealing ? yards linen cloth, at Newry, the property of James ?oil, August last. James Thompson—Keeps shop in Newry; Mr. Davis left web in witness’s care, which was stolen before the market: got the web in prisoner’s possession after the ?; was watching cloth for Mr. Kilpatrick. David Kilpatrick—Manufactures linen cloth; was in Newry market, the 30th August last; knows prisoner; bought a web of cloth from him, and put a private mark for the price, witness is sometimes jobber ; identified the ? Of John Davis—Gave the web produced to James Thompson, on the morning of the 30th ; knows it by two different marks.— Guilty ; to be transported for 7 years.
