Family connections for James (Harrex) are: HARREX James Procor/Proctor (Harrex) was born on 23 2 1766. He was tried for stealing a ewe of R&E (Edgar) of Finborough at Suffolk Assizes on 1795, sentenced to death reprieved to 14years & arrived in NSW as a convict on 2 6 1797 after a voyage of 9months on GANGES. He was listed, as (Horrax), with land in 1804. He was an emancipist when he married Frances Sarah (Taber) on 3 2 1807 at St Phillips CofE Sydney. On 28 12 1809 he was granted land at Menangle which was regranted as 200acres on 1 1 1810. He was recorded as a building contractor in 1810 & built a turnpike fro Sydney to Hawkesbury Rd & other works. In 1811 he obtained a spirit licence in Parramatta. He was tried w/2others for stealing cows at Criminal Court on 16 3 1813, sentenced to 14years & sent to Newcastle as prisoner on 21 7 1813 on ESTRAMINA. He was in Parramatta in December 1817. She arrived in NSW with her parents on 2 6 1797 after a voyage of 9months on GANGESalso. She was recorded in 1828 as widow householder on 1,250acres at Parramatta with her 5children. James Procor (Harrex) & Frances Sarah (Taber) produced 8children: 1.Ada/h Proctor (Harrex) was born on 9 1 1808 & baptised on 17 9 1809 at St Phillips CofE Sydney. She married William (Cox) on 13 12 1827 at St Johns CofE Parramatta & produced 4children. She is recorded in 1828 with her family & her sister Hannah at Parramatta. She died on 4 3 1886 age78. ..William (Cox) was born about 1795. He was tried w/2others for stealing, on 7/9 8 1819, a coat from Thomas (Fenn) at probably Old Bailey, sentenced to 7years, held at Middlesex Gaol Delivery & arrived in NSW as a convict on 5 4 1820 after a voyage of 5months on COROMANDEL. He was Free by Servitude by 1828. He was recorded in 1828 as publican baker at Parramatta, in muster 1828 with his family as publican Parramatta & in 1830 as a baker. Richard Osbourne, per ship Perseus, convict, Convicted by Criminal Court, 16 March, sentence, Life, vessel sent by to Newcastle - Estramina. Court of Criminal Jurisdiction. Thomas Plumb, Richard Osborn, and James Harrex, were indicted, Plumb and Osborn for stealing, and Harrex for receiving two cows the property of the Crown, value 56l. - Osborn guilty - Death. Harrex guilty - 14 years transportation. Plumb acquitted. Sydney Gazette, 20 Mar 1813. Parramatta, Dec 15 1817. Sainty & Johnson; 1828 Census of New South Wales: [Ref H0762] Harrex, Sarah, 39, BC, Householder at Parramatta. 1250 acres, 400 cleared, 6 horses, 350 sheep. Also the following children listed: Milbah 19, Frederick 13, James 11, George Thomas 4, Robert James 1. All born in the colony. Another daughter, Hannah aged 9 is listed as a lodger with Wm Cox (probably at school) living with her elder sister Adah, who was the wife of William Cox.




In the colony, James married Frances Sarah Taber who was the daughter of Thomas Taber (Convict, Ganges, 1797). Frances had come free as a 7 year old with her mother on the Ganges accompanying her convicted father. James Harrex was aged 31 at that time. When he married Frances, he was aged 40 and she was 17. He and Frances had 7 children. James died before the 1828 census.




At the Suffolk Assizes 1795, held before Hon. Mr. Baron Penryn assisted by Counsellor Mingay: James Harrex for stealing a Ewe sheep property of Messrs, R. and E. Edgar of Finborourgh was capitally convicted and received the sentence of death, this sentence was subsequently reprieved to one of transprtation.
