Convict Notes

I was unable to find a John Harrington on the Arrival List (14 Dec 1801) of Convicts Transported on the Minorca, Canada, Nile (see NSW State Records, Transported beyond the Seas, NRS1150 4 3999 00053), but in the Order in Council dated 28 Sept 1798, annotated "Hilsborough, arrived July 1799", on the 'List of Male Transports' I found and I quote: '[No.] 33 / John Harrington / age 14 / Lancaster / 3d May 1797.' Thus it appears that the Convict Transport Registers database is in error. This person is almost certainly the John Harrington who advertised in the Sydney Gazette of 5 May 1805, page 1, column b, his intention to leave the colony [to go sealing?] and in the 1806 Muster is listed as sealing in Kable's employ (Baxter 1898: 51, see A2008).
