Mary Ann HARRYMAN was convicted at Birmingham, England on 8 Jan 1847 for stealing from the person - a watch. 7 yr transportation sentence. Sent to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) per the ship 'Asia' arriving 21 July 1847. Single woman; aged 19yrs; a glass button maker. Native place of birth: Birmingham, England. Father: Abraham (ref. Convict Indent record) Brother: Robert Sister: Ellen Station Gang in VDL: The 'Anson' Hulk. Assigned out to various work services. 1848: Absent without leave. Sent to the Female Factory, Cascades, Hobart for 6 mths hard labour. March 1850: Representing herself to be free. Further 8 mths hard labour at the Factory. 1 Sept 1850: Delivered of a male child named George (at the Female Factory, Hobart). (ref. recorded on Conduct Record & Registration 33/1/3 no. 2703 but name spelt "Harrayman". Father's name not recorded.) 9 Sept 1850: Application for permission to marry - to George Hockley (transported per Palmyra). (Ref. 52/1/4). 9 Nov 1851: Child George died at the Female Factory hospital. (ref. recorded on Conduct Record). 9 Dec 1851: Application for permission to marry - to John Martin (transported per the 'Lord Lyndoch'). Approved. (ref. 30844) 25 Nov 1851: Ticket of Leave granted. 9 Feb 1852: Married John Martin. (ref. Conduct Record) 6 Feb 1854: Certificate of Freedom issued, at Campbell Town, Tasmania.
