William Hasell was transported on the Surrey Or Surry, departing 31st Dec 1813 and arriving 28th Jul 1814 with 204 passengers.

Built at Harwich in 1811 a square-rigged transport ship of 443 tons and copper lined she had two decks with a height between decks of 5 ft. 8 ins. In 1818, she had a major refit increasing the decks (and convict carrying capacity) to three. She was owned by the London firm of F. & C.F. Mangles.

Sydney Gazette, 10 Sep 1814. SECRETARY'S OFFICE, SYDNEY, Saturday, 10th of September, 1814. THE contagious and malignant Disease which prevailed on board the Male Convict Ship Surry, on her late Passage hither from England, having been fatal to thirty-six of the Convicts destined for this Place, His Excellency the Governor deems it expedient that the Names of the unfortunate Sufferers shall be published, in Order that their Friends shall be officially apprised of their Decease. List of thirty six Covicts, who died at Sea, on board the Ship Surry, on her Voyage from England to New South Wales, with the Names of the Hulks from whence they had been embarked, and the Date at which they died.
