According to Ashover Parish records, Samuel's baptism took place on 9 Nov 1766. Therefore, it is likely that he was born on an earlier date.

Samuel was 33 years old when convicted. He may have married Betty Renshaw in Manchester in 1797. There was a Samuel Haslam born C1800 in Cheetham Hill district, Manchester, Lancashire, England. According to Haslam family history, he and his family moved to Australia and were never heard from again. Samuel's parents were Samuel Haslam and Betty Renshaw, m 16 April 1797 in Cathedral of Manchester, Manchester, Lancashire, England. 5/10/1801: Married Maria Davis (Earl Cornwallis arr. 1801) – they had 4 children. Samuel became a publican. Haslams Creek is named after him. He received a 50 acre grant in the area to the north of the Parramatta Road in January 1806 and was subsequently granted additional portions of land further east, to the south of Parramatta Road and east of Haslams Creek. Samuel was given a “Beer Licence” for an Inn on Parramatta Road in 1811. It served travellers between Sydney and Parramatta. The area was very isolated at the time. In very early times it was officially Hackings Creek but Samuel Haslams hospitality was well known so that the area and thus the creek became known as Haslams Creek. In 1859 a railway platform was opened along its wanderings and was named Haslam's Creek. The station is now known as Lidcombe. C 1835: Samuel died. No exact date found.
