Convict Notes

Salford Trinity Sessions Ellen Hatton was indicted for stealing, on the 1st instant, from the person of John Seddon, a watch, his property.—It appeared that the prosecutor, who lives at Preston, happened to be in Manchester on the day mentioned in the indictment, and meeting with the prisoner, was induced to accompany her into Angel Meadow. As they were going along prosecutor observed two men at a distance; when they got near them, the prisoner knocked the prosecutor down; the two men came up and took his watch. Prosecutor went for a watchman, who accompanied him to a house of ill fame, where prisoner was found in bed.— Transported seven years. Manchester Guardian, 3 Aug 1822.

ANDREW FRAZER. March 22, 1825. Sydney Gazette, 24 Mar 1825. The late Mr. Frazer. — The demise of this wealthy baker, who from the humblest circumstances in life, had, by industry, honesty, and continued sobriety for years, risen to independence, we recorded in yesterday's number. But, on account of some rumour getting abroad that the deceased had met with a premature death, the Coroner deemed it expedient to convene an Inquisition on the case, and enquire into the rise and nature, of such a report. Accordingly the Inquest was held yesterday morning — the body was opened — and a Verdict returned thereupon of. Death by the visitation of God. For the last few weeks the deceased had abandoned himself to intense drinking, and his death is to be attributed to nothing but an extraordinary abuse of ardent spirits. To sum up his character, Mr. Frazer was an industrious and honour able Scotchman. We wish we had some more of them, for they would be sure, sooner or later, to acquire wealth. Sydney Gazette, 5 Jan 1827. To THE EDITOR OF THE SYDNEY GAZETTE - Sir, I beg you will correct the Statement in your Paper of this Day's Date, relative to my deceased Husband's Body, having been opened, as such was not the case.
