James Hatton was 29 years old on arrival in WA. His occupation had been a ‘Warehouseman’ and he was the manager of a cotton mill, his occupation listed on his convict record was a ‘Carpenter’. James was the son of Catherine, and a widower with 2 children. He was 5’5” tall, brown hair, blue eyes, oval face, fair and a little browned complexion, stout, scar under right eye. 10/6/1851: TOL 1854: Married Johanna Looby in Albany, WA (Johanna is listed as ‘Lukey’ on the births of the 5 children listed, however, there may have been up to 8 children born). Johanna was born in 1829 and died in 1884 aged 54. James worked in South West - 1854 in Albany. Painted pictures of Albany -1853, York -1857, and Fremantle -1859, signed W S Hatton. 8/12/1855: CP – Fremantle 1888: James died in Esperance, Western Australia.
