WILLIAM HAWKINS, a convict (who lately came from Sydney in the Kangaroo), was charged with feloniously stealing from a house now building in Collins-street, by Edward Lord, Esq., 29 lbs. of bar iron, which was fixed in the brick-work of a chimney in the building, the property of the said E. Lord, Esq. The Prifoner being put on his defence, cknowledged to the Charge, for which he was sentenced to receive two hundred lashes and to work in the Gaol Gang six calendar months in Irons. Hobart Town Gazette, 10 Aug 1816. At a full Bench of Magistrates convened this day, William Hawkins was found guilty of robbing Colenel Davey, and sentenced 100 lashes and 12 months in the gaol gang.
