Trade, Book keeper Clerk. --------------------------------------------------------------------- The following prisoners have this week been committed to our county gaol:—John Hawthorne, Bishop, Thomas Atkins, John Atkinson, Arthur Watts, George Piper, John King, and Joseph Hailley, charged with forging certificates, and personating Marines, in order to receive pay and prize money due to others; Hampshire Chronicle, 17 Feb 1817. Hampshire Lent Assizes.  John Hawthorne and Wm. Bishop, charged with forging a prize money certificate, with intent to defraud the Commissioners and Governors of the Royal Hospital at Greenwich.—John Hawthorne, and Thos. Atkins, for the like offence. —John Hawthorne  and John Atkinson, for a similar offence.—John Hawthorne and Arthur Watts, for an offence of the same nature. Hampshire Chronicle, 3 March 1817. Before the Judge left this city he reprieved all the prisoners sentenced to death at the Assizes with the exception of John Hawthorn and Abraham Johnson for forgery, .. who were left for execution.
