Family connections for Margaret (Hayes) are: HAYES Margaret (Hayes) was born in 1768 & became a housekeeper/cook. She was tried for felony in Wexford Ireland, sentenced to Life & arrived in NSW as a convict on 11 2 1796 after a voyage of 6months on MARQUIS CORNWALLIS. She had a first relationship (no record found of a marriage) with Henry (Rochester) his first relationship) & produced 2children. She was Free by Servitude by 1803. She is recorded in 1828 as a housekeeper. She died on 1 10 1844 age76 mother of at least 3children. [Some details taken from this Website] Henry (Rochester) grew up to be a farmer. He was tried for stealing at Lewes Sussex Assizes, sentenced to 14years & arrived in NSW as a convict on 7 10 1792 after a voyage of 4.5months on ROYAL ADMIRAL. He was Free by Servitude by 1800. He had a second relationship with Elizabeth (Nowland) her second relationhip). He is recorded in 1825 as a cartwright & in 1827, 1828 & 1830 as a wheelwright. He is recorded in 1828 as a farmer at South Creek Pitt Town. He died on 20 9 1841 father of at least 6children from an accidental fall while intoxicated & was buried at St Matthews CofE Windsor. The son James is located with his wife at Windsor [Ref R1186].




In the colony Margaret had a long term relationship with Henry Rochester (Convict, Royal Admiral, 1792). They possibly married in 1803 at Windsor. The had two children, James born 1800 and Mary 1805.




Margaret age 28 was convicted in Co. Wexford, Ireland for felony at large and sentenced to transportation for life. She was described as a housekeeper. She was transported aboard the ship 'Marquis Cornwallis' arriving in the colony 11 Feb 1796.
