Thomas Haynes was convicted at Wilts on 06/03/1830 for robbing from a person (stealing a watch). Life sentence. Gaol Report: Indifferent. Hulk Report: Orderly. Transported to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) per the 'Clyde' arriving 18/12/1830. Aged 20 years; single man; trade - groom & farm labourer. Assignments in Colony. 1830: Public Works 1832: Mr. Kinsman 1833: Mr. R. Jones 1835: Mr. W. Chaffey Record of misconduct: 02/02/1835 (Chaffey)- Found in Firth's Public House on a Sunday - Reprimand. (report also in Colonial Times 10/02/1835) 11/03/18..: Being in Town without a pass and found in a Public House. Admonished. 07/12/1838: Ticket of Leave granted (report also in Hobart Courier 14/12/1838) 12/01/1843: Conditional Pardon granted (No. 100) (report also in Colonial Times 12/09/1843. (Note: There was a Thomas Haynes sent to VDL - on the 'Moffat' 1834 and a Thomas Haynes/Haines on the Norfolk 1835. Spelling of name may have changed over time to "Haines".
