Edward Head was transported on the Surrey Or Surry, departing 31st Dec 1813 and arriving 28th Jul 1814 with 204 passengers.
Built at Harwich in 1811 a square-rigged transport ship of 443 tons and copper lined she had two decks with a height between decks of 5 ft. 8 ins. In 1818, she had a major refit increasing the decks (and convict carrying capacity) to three. She was owned by the London firm of F. & C.F. Mangles.

Convict Notes
Edward Head and John Rose were found guilty of horse-stealing. Mr. Bourne, a farmer at Brightling, in this county, proved that his horse was put in his stable on the night of the 11th of May, and the next day was missing. Two days afterwards, as he was riding on the Horsham road, he saw the prisoner Head riding his horse, in company with Rose, and a man of the name of Seale. Being alone, he did not think it prudent to say any anything to them, but he rode forward to a public house on the road, and the landlord joined him in pursuit. As soon as the prisoners saw themselves followed, they turned out of the high road and made across a field until they were stopped by a hedge: here Head and Rose abandoned their horses and scrambling through the hedge. attempted to hide themselves in the ditch, but they were discovered and apprehended. Seale said he was riding his own horse, and had joined them at the fair. Head, in his defence, said he had given two ponies and ? for the horse at the fair. The Jury found Head and Rose Guilty, and Seale Not Guilty. Star, 18 Aug 1813.
