Rowland Heald was born on 4 November 1808 and baptised on 20 November 1898 at St Laurence Church, Chorley, Lancashire, son of William HEALD and Catharine WHITTAKER. His first wife was Catherine WALTON, whom he married at Chorley on 17 January 1831. After Rowland was transported, Catherine married Henry ASHCROFT on 24 June 1839. After receiving his conditional pardon, Rowland HEALD changed his name to Rowland HILL and married Anne Elizabeth T PEARCE in 1852 at Methodist Church, Sydney, NSW.
