John Healey was convicted at the Isle of Wight on 09/12/1844 for desertion from the 97th Regiment (had been absent 2yrs + previous 3 times). 7 yr sentence. Transported to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) on the 'Marion' arriving 16/09/1845. Ship Surgeon's Report - well behaved. Single man; bricklayer by trade; aged 29yrs; place of birth - Co. Wicklow, Ireland; Roman Catholic; 5'7 1/4"; ruddy complexion; dk brown hair; stout; grey eyes. Father - Edward Brother - Edward Sisters - Mary, Ellen & Peggy 12 mths Probation. Cascades Station Gang.
