4/6/1842 York Herald Yorkshire, England: SUMMER ASSIZES—NORTHERN CIRCUIT Thomas Helmsley, of Richmond, labourer, was committed last week to the House of Correction at Northallerton, to take his trial at the next sessions, for feloniously stealing and taking away one leather strap, and a number of eggs, from the premises belonging to Mr. Wm. Cooper of Brompton-upon Swale, farmer. Thomas was listed as 23 years old on arrival in VDL - he was born in Richmond, Yorkshire. Previous convictions: 12 mths for highway robbery; 2mths for housebreaking; for garden robbery 2 mths; for old iron 2 mths. Thomas was 5'4½" tall, literate, single, roman catholic, can read, fresh complexion, dark brown hair, brown whiskers, grey eyes, 3 large moles left side of nick, mermaid on right arm, HxT J on left arm, anchor on back of left arm, cross on back of 2nd finger. Brother: Joseph Sister: Alice - both at native place. 23/1/1849: TOL 23/1/1849: Permission to marry Ann Thompson (Lloyds). 13/2/1849: Married Ann Thompson, 22, a servant, at Mr. Armstrong's house, after banns.
