Mary HENDERSON was convicted at Perth, Scotland on 27 April 1852 for stealing a handkerchief and soap. 4 previous convictions. 7yr transportation sentence. Sent to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) per the ship 'Duchess of Northumberland' arriving 21 April 1853. Aged 44yrs; married, 4 children; laundress; Presbyterian; 5'4 1/2"; dark complexion; brown hair; Hazel eyes. Native place of birth: Fifeshire, Scotland. Husband: Robert, at native place. (The Indent record does not state why her other name was "Tyrell" - maiden or married name?) Mother: Agnes Brother: Andrew (ref. Convict Indent record) Assigned to numerous work services in the Colony. 20 Jan 1857: Ticket of Leave granted. 17 June 1859: Certificate of Freedom issued. 4 Oct 1861: at Pontville, Tasmania - idle & disorderly. 1 mth hard labour. 1 Oct 1875: at Longford, Tasmania - idle & disorderly. 3mths hard labour. Convicted under name "Mary Ann BROWN".
