Henry Dicketts was one of about 475 Swing Rioters, convicted for ARSON, MACHINE BREAKING, RECEIVING, or RIOTING, transported to Van Diemen's Land (VDL, now Tasmania) or New South Wales from 18 Counties of south east England 1831-33 born: 1811 in Milford, Wiltshire Description: Trade, Bricklayer & Plasterer Height w/out shoes: 5'6½", Age: 20 Complexion: Fair, Head: Round, Hair: Brown Whiskers: ?, Visage: M.S., Forehead: ? Eyebrows: Brown, Eyes: L Grey Blind of left white pupil, Nose: Long Straight, Mouth: M.W. Chin: Small, Mole on rt side chin, mole on rt arm April 15th 1832 working for himself on Saturday week & Saturday last contrary to orders pleading ignorance as to the Govt. order he is admonished April 29th 1833 Late & neglecting his duty 3 days impt? Free pardon 3rd February 1836
Transported for Rioting, Dicketts was one of about 475 Swing Rioters, convicted for ARSON, MACHINE BREAKING, RECEIVING, or RIOTING, transported to Van Diemen's Land (VDL, now Tasmania) or New South Wales from 18 Counties of south east England 1831-33. The VDL contingent of 329 arrived in Hobart on Eliza (224 male), Mary (1 female) and Proteus (98 male) in 1831; Gilmore, Lord William Bentinck (1 male each), York (2 male) in 1832 and Lotus (2 male) in 1833. Three swing rioters, first transported to NSW per Eleanor, eventually became temporary or permanent Tasmanians bringing the total number of known VDL ex-Swing rioters to 332. born: 1811 Milford, Wiltshire Gaol report: Unknown Hulk report: None Single.
