The convicted persons were then known as 'Exiles' because they had served part of their sentence in England and providing they were of good conduct were to be given a 'Ticket of Leave' or Conditional Pardon upon arrival in Australia. The 'Adelaide' arrived at Hobart, VDL on 29 Nov 1849 and disembarked 40 men. The ship then sailed to Port Phillip, Victoria but was refused entry and so sailed on to Port Jackson, New South Wales arriving there 24 Dec 1849. 1855 voyage: departed Portland, England on 19 April 1855, arriving Fremantle, Western Australia on 18 July 1855. 260 convicts, 1 death. The ship also carried 30 Pensioner Guards and their families.

Henry Lawrence was illiterate and protestant, he was married with no children. 31/12/1857: Family Application. 13/6/1857: TOL 4/8/1860: CP 5/1/1861: Married Elizabeth Anderson. Elizabeth was born in County Tyrone 8/11/1838 and died at Northam 30/10/1915, aged 76. They had 2 children, Annie Elizabeth, born 6/12/1864 at Toodyay and died 15/10/1893, aged 28 at Newcastle, WA., and Andrew Albert Lawrence born 1875. 12/4/1910: Henry died and Northam WA., both he and Elizabeth are buried at the Northam Cemetery - Pioneers section.
