Morning Advertiser London, England 5 Feb 1822 SOUTHWARK SESSIONS William George and Henry Thorngate, were tried upon an indictment for having stolen 2OO weight of lead, of the value of 30s. fixed to a warehouse belonging to a Mr. Dyas Steers. It appeared from the evidence that Mrs. Giles, now a widow, was in possession of some premises situate in Cambridge-yard, Southward, for the prosecutor, who is the landlord, and wished to let them. Her husband was ill, and she had occasion to leave home for a short time, when she entrusted the prisoner Thorngate with the care of the premises in her absence. On her return she found that a back warehouse had been forced open, and a quantity of lead had been ripped from a gutter, and several other things taken away. George, it was proved, had stripped the lead at night from the premises, and together with Thorngate sold it to a plumber. Prisoners were found guilty and sentenced to be transported for seven years. No ship found for William George. Henry Thorngate was listed as 60 years old on arrival, he was a groom, 5'6½" tall, brown complexion, grey hair, grey eyes. 18/9/1827: TOL Sydney Bench. 9/2/1828: Convict Death Register - Henry Thorngate died, aged 60?? and was buried at St. Phillip's, Sydney.
